Resources / Administration

Excellent computers skills and customer service skills – Do you have them? These are the two most important areas for administration roles. Employment opportunities are good but you need to be proficient using Microsoft Office (particularly Word and Excel), databases and good general digital awareness to handle the Internet and peripheral devices. You may be the ‘go to person’ for everyday problems, so a good dose of initiative and pleasant demeanour won’t go astray.

Your application will be an assessment of your administration skills, so make sure that the resume and cover letter look like they’ve been formatted by a professional – this is your bread and butter, so you need to impress.

If you haven’t had any experience, a good place to start in the administration field is with neighbourhood houses. They are often willing to give people their first break offering some voluntary work a few days a week.

Checkout the neighbourhood house in your area.
